Join me as I look over a 2001 Yamaha Neo's YN50R 50cc 2 stroke scooter that had been left outside under a tarpaulin for a few years. This is the first part of a series looking at getting it back on the road. The scooter isn't worth that much and there is a limited budget for the project, so this isn't a full nut and bolt restoration. Instead it's looking at getting it safe, roadworthy and enjoyable to ride.
Before it can be ridden on the road it'll need to pass a MOT test. This is an annual roadworthiness inspection and as I look round the scooter I mention various points to look for that could cause a scooter to fail the MOT test.
Later in the video I start removing the various plastic panels to get a better look at the engine.
I'm going to split the scooter work into several videos:
*Front end: wet sanding fork leg rust, freeing up the sticking front brake caliper, changing the old tyre and perished valve.
*Rear end: checking the drive belt and variator rollers, changing the final drive oil, servicing the rear brake.
*Engine and ancillaries: basic engine service including changing the spark plug, air filter, 2 stroke oil. Checking the fuel system
*Finally I'll do a summary video and go through the costs involved.
Thanks very much for watching. Please consider subscribing if you haven't already and I'll look forward to seeing you for the next instalment.
